Duncan nominated for Autosport Award

Today Duncan received the fantastic news that he has been selected as one of the six finalists for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award.

He had been suggested as one of the possibilities by Autosport Magazine to their readers who were asked to vote for their favourite driver. The finalists were then selected from a shortlist by an expert panel of judges, comprising British Racing Drivers’ Club secretary Roger Lane-Nott, Motorsport Vision’s Jonathan Palmer and Giles Butterfield, West Surrey Racing’s Dick Bennetts, former award winner Andrew Kirkaldy, veteran commentator Ian Titchmarsh and Autosport’s Marcus Pye.

The drivers will be evaluated over two days at Snetterton, where they will be tested in four different racing cars – a Caterham, a Team Dynamics BTCC Honda Integra, a Mercedes DTM touring car and a Works Series by Renault single seater. It is not just speed that the drivers will be judged on, but also how they adapt to new cars, deal with pressure and work with the engineers.

The winner will be announced on 4th December at the Autosport Awards and will receive a £50,000 cheque and a test in a McLaren Formula 1 car. However, it shouldn’t be underestimated that just to be selected is a real achievement and a true recognition of talent.

Duncan is delighted to have made it to the final six and is looking forward to the test days in early November. What an eventful October he has had – becoming Runner-Up in the Championship, winning the Formula Ford Festival and now being nominated for this award!
