Magny-Cours Superleague Debut with Galatasaray

Race 1: Qualified 12th, Finished 5th
Race 2: Reverse grid start position 14th, Finished 11th

For the opening round of the Superleague Formula 2009 season Duncan Tappy has made a football-style transfer to play for Turkish football squad Galatasaray. The weekend didn’t get off to a great start with last minute preparations taking most of the practice session so only a handful of laps were completed before the qualifying session which set Duncan 12th on the grid yesterday.

Race one today saw a typical Tappy-style start with a four position gain in the opening lap. Before the pit stop window opened Duncan had made up to seventh. He was one of the last cars to pit and held onto seventh and over the following laps managed to climb two more places to cross the line in fifth place.

The second race was more frustrating with reverse grid rules putting Duncan 14th with the fastest cars behind him. This time Duncan pitted early and again held onto his slot and in the remaining race managed to gain three places to finish 11th.

Duncan said: “It’s great to be back in a Superleague Formula car and many thanks to Galatasaray for letting me fly their flag. We were a little on the back foot this weekend so I’m very pleased that we put together a decent qualifying time with only four laps on track before that.

“Race one was obviously better for me in terms of results and I had the opportunity to race. In race two I started on high mileage tyres so struggled with grip and the others took advantage. By the time we could pit to change them it was too late.”
